Why should I choose the SoCal Film Academy?
We use our experience to give you the
experience you need. As a part of a production team in the
SoCal Film Academy, you will create a finished product, get
experience and premiere at a reputable film festival.
What are the differences between the 1
and 2 week sessions?
***Most
Common Question***
The 1- and 2-week
sessions set out with the same goal, but take a different
journey to get there. Both aim at giving you practical
filmmaking experience with the opportunity to leave with a
professional quality project.
The 1-week session target is a 3-5 minute short film with a very
accelerated production process, while still giving you practical and
worthy experience to add to your resume. The 2-week program, while
still very accelerated, carries each aspect further with the goal of
completing an 8-12 minute short film.

What if I am thinking about going to
another school or program for a 2- or 4-year degree?
A 1- or 2-week session is a great way to find
out what emphasis you may be searching for, gain experience, or
just simply make sure you are ready for an extended film school.
There are multitudes of successful filmmakers who did not go to
a 4-year program, but made their way by, well, just making
movies.
Will a 1 or 2 week session really help
me?
Experience, experience, experience.
Nothing replaces experience. In our 1 and 2 week sessions,
you will gain valuable experience and create a finished short
film.
What's different about the SoCal Film
Academy?
Our goal is to have you walk away with a professional, industry ready,
resume ready product, and to have the opportunity to have an industry
festival premiere in September, following the completion of the program. Not only do you create, but you premiere.
How important is a festival
premiere/screening for my movie?
Whether you are an independent director or an up-and-coming
actor, festivals are important for a variety of reasons. They
are great ways to get your first premiere, to network and meet
others in the industry, to find an audience for your movie, and
you never know who is in the audience! Ask Kevin Smith if
festivals are important -- Clerks was discovered at a
festival in a near empty screening! Steven Spielberg cast
Vin Diesel in Saving Private Ryan based on having seen
him in a short film at a film festival.
What type of equipment will I be provided
with? Can I use my own equipment?
We use professional and pro-sumer
(pro/consumer) quality cameras, lighting, sound and editing
gear. You will have the option to use a variety of
different equipment to create a professional finished product.
And, yes, if you have your own equipment, you are welcome to use
that as well.
